The Mound Fort Band and Orchestra program aims to give students in the central/northern Ogden area a creative outlet to find their voice, provide a sense of community and belonging at school, and teach students valuable life skills through the power of music. No matter what their chosen career field is in the future, participation in a music ensemble equips students with the ability to work hard, be a team player, and think critically and creatively. Music also adds immense value to a student's everyday life. Make sure that you choose to be a part of the band or orchestra today!

Band

7th Grade

Beginning Band - for all students who are brand new to playing a traditional band instrument and reading music! Open to all, no audition or prerequisites required. PLEASE SELECT THE CORRECT CLASS BASED ON WHICH INSTRUMENT YOU WANT TO LEARN!
- Beginning Brass - Students will learn how to play such instruments as the trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba. Students may bring their own instrument to play, or may use a school-owned instrument. Students will be required to participate in all concerts and performances.
- Beginning Woodwinds: Students will learn how to play such instruments as the clarinet, saxophone, and flute. Students may bring their own instrument to play, or may use a school-owned instrument. Students will be required to participate in all concerts and performances.
- Beginning Percussion: LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE, FIRST-COME FIRST-SERVE! Students will learn how to play such instruments as the drums, keyboards, and other percussion. Students may bring their own instrument to play, or may use a school-owned instrument. Students will be required to participate in all concerts and performances.

8th & 9th Grade

Performance Band
- Prerequisite: one full year of beginning band OR audition with director required
- For students who have taken at least one year of Band. Students who sign up for this class will continue to learn more advanced techniques on their instruments, and will represent the school as a traveling performance ensemble. Students will be required to participate in all concerts and performances.

High School

Concert Band
- Prerequisite: one full year in a band class; audition for upper-level classes required
- Concert Band is a traditional instrumental group made up of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to hone their skills, perform, learn music fundamentals, have uplifting musical experiences, and learn how to have success as a group.
Jazz Band
- Prerequisite: audition required for placement; guitar players must know how to read sheet music
- Jazz Ensemble is an advanced instrumental band that learns and performs the musical systems of jazz, blues, funk, and rock genres. Audition is required for students new to the class; you MUST be able to read music on your main instrument.
Marching Band (OHS)
- THIS CLASS IS ONLY OFFERED AT OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL
- Prerequisite: at least one full year of a band or orchestra class
- Marching Band is a traditional instrumental group made up of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments that performs while creating drill formations on a football field, as well as a color guard unit to provide dance and choreography. Students will develop not only their musical skills but also teamwork, dedication, and leadership abilities, creating unforgettable memories and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Bagpipes (Pipe Band - BLHS)
- THIS CLASS IS ONLY OFFERED AT BEN LOMOND HIGH SCHOOL
- Beginning Bagpipes and Drums
  - Beginning Bagpipes is a class geared towards exploring intro elements of music in the context of a bagpipe band. This class is also required to join the Advanced Bagpipe class. Bagpipe Corp positions include bagpipes, snare, tenor, and bass drum. Students will learn about all four instruments, but will choose one to focus on throughout the school year.
- Advanced Bagpipes and Drums
  - Prerequisite: one full year of Beginning Bagpipes and Drums
  - Advanced Bagpipes is a class to hone the skills of playing in a bagpipe corps, and work on the specifics of being kilted here at Ben Lomond High School. Students in this class will regularly perform after school, in community events, and in Scottish competitions.

Performance Orchestra
- Prerequisite: one full year of beginning orchestra OR audition with director required
- For students who have taken at least one year of Orchestra. Students who sign up for this class will continue to learn more advanced techniques on their instruments, and will represent the school as a traveling performance ensemble. Students will be required to participate in all concerts and performances.

High School

Orchestra
- Prerequisite: One full year in an orchestra class; audition for placement in upper-level classes is required
- Orchestra is an instrument string ensemble that explores a wide variety of musical genres, including rock, pop, holiday, contemporary, and classical. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to perform, learn music fundamentals, have uplifting musical experiences, and learn how to have success as a group.
Elite Strings (OHS)
- THIS CLASS IS ONLY OFFERED AT OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL
- Prerequisite: Audition with director is required
- Elite Strings is an extracurricular string quartet that performs a wide variety of challenging music for public performance.

Mariachi II
- Prerequisite: one full year of beginning mariachi, band, or orchestra OR audition with director required
- In Mariachi 2, students will use their prior knowledge of music performance to engross themselves in the musical style, technique, and culture of mariachi music in preparation for performance. Mariachi II will consist of performance-level groups that will travel and represent the school.

High School

Intermediate Mariachi
- Prerequisite: one full year of beginning mariachi, band, or orchestra OR audition with director required
- In Mariachi 2, students will use their prior knowledge of music performance to engross themselves in the musical style, technique, and culture of mariachi music in preparation for performance.
Advanced Mariachi
- Prerequisite: audition with director required
- In Mariachi III, students will become capable performers who can perform a wide array of traditional and contemporary mariachi music. Mariachi III will consist of high-level performance groups that will travel and represent the school.
